The weather in Flathead Valley is surprisingly mild, considering its northerly location in the Rocky Mountains. Summers tend to be sunny and mild, with clear skies and temperatures in the 70's and the 80's. The spring and fall brings cooler temperatures, some more clouds and very variable temperatures. Winter temperatures generally average in the 20's, with ample snows coating the mountains in a pile of white.

Winter Recreation

The Flathead Valley is the winter recreational playground of Montana. The regions ample snowfall combined with relatively warmtemperatures allow for outdoor activities all winter long.

Cross country skiing is available in the beautiful and very quiet Glacier National Park. Skiers can venture into the park during the winter, skiing on the scenic Going to the Sun Road. Other cross country ski trails also exist up in the Flathead National Forest.

The downhill skiing in the Flahead is, quite simply, excellent. The Big Mountain Resort, located just 40 minutes from Kalispell, provides world class downhill skiing on over 3000 acres. Blacktail Mountain provides additional skiing possibilities, and is especially well suited for beginner skiers and those on limited budgets.

Golf in the Flathead Valley

The Flathead Valley is rated as one of the top 50 golf destinations in the world, and for good reason. Nine golf courses provide a great variety of courses for golfers of all abilities and budgets.

Popular golf courses in the Flathead Valley include Whitefish Lake Golf Course, Big Mountain Golf Course, the Eagle Bend Club, Meadow Lake Resort and Glacier View.

Fishing & Rafting

Fishing and Rafting are two very popular activities in the Flathead Valley during the spring, summer and fall. The Flathead Valley and the surrounding area is blessed with several crystal clear, free flowing rivers and more than 100 hundred lakes.

Fishing enthuasists will enjoy the excellent lake fishing found in Flathead Lake and Whitefish Lake, where huge Lake Trout, Northern Pike and Mountain Whitefish are commonly caught.
